Questions about the I Drive Safely Online program?
Answer/Article

Click here to purchase this Program

The Arizona Supreme Court requires every student to appear in person to take their final exam. I DRIVE SAFELY allows you to appear at any licensed notary public. Simply go to the notary public of your choice, call us with the notary's fax number, and we'll immediately fax a copy of the exam. You will need to complete the exam at that time, and have it notarized. The notary will fax the exam back to us for grading. It's that easy!. If you have questions, contact 1-800-723-1955.

Arizona ON-LINE Defensive Driving FAQs

  1. Is AAA Arizona the course “sponsor?”

No – this program will be offered through a third-party vendor, I DRIVE SAFELY (IDS).  IDS will ensure that the course meets state requirements and will provide 24-hour customer support, technical support, course delivery and the necessary tracking/reporting to the court.
  2. Is the I DRIVE SAFELY online defensive driving course approved in every court?

While the I DRIVE SAFELY online defensive driving course is Arizona Supreme Court certified, some of the courts in the state contract with only a single course provider. To find out if I DRIVE SAFELY is approved by your court, please begin the online registration. If your court appears in the court selection menu, it is approved. If your court does not appear in the selection menu, it is not approved.
  3. What does the online course cost?

The total price of the course is a combination of a school fee (typically $30), the court diversion fee (determined by each court) and the state fee ($20). When you register for the online course, I DRIVE SAFELY will collect all of the above fees, based on the court you select, and distribute the state and court fees accordingly.
  4. How long is the online course?

By law, the online course is 4 hours in length. This is the same for the classroom courses.
  5. Where do I take the final exam?

After completing the I DRIVE SAFELY online defensive driving course, you must appear in person at a notary public (of your choice) where you will take the 50 question final exam. The exam has two parts. Part 1 consists of 25 questions related to the course information. You must score 80 percent or higher on this portion. You will have a total of 2 attempts to successfully pass with 80% or higher. Part 2 consists of 25 questions related to physical aspects of the course. You must score a 90% or higher to pass this portion - and per Arizona Supreme Court Regulations, you only have one attempt at Part 2 of the exam.
  6. What does the online course consist of?

The Arizona Defensive Driving course (Diversion Attendance) combines text, videos, and animations to create an online experience that's interesting and interactive. You'll learn traditional driving safety information, but also Arizona-specific rules and regulations like state speed limits and DUI/DWI laws. The course will take you 6 hours to complete and contains 12 chapters, each outlining a different aspect of driving safety.

  7. What is the AAA Member Discount for this online course?

Courts in AZ have the ability to set the fee for the entire course and some courts (albeit a small number) do set this fee. When this happens AAA is not allowed to offer any discounts to anyone. In a majority of the cases we can offer AAA members the 10% discount.  To find out if your court offers the AAA discount please begin the registration procesess here.
