Question/Topic
Do I need a passport to travel outside the U.S. or will other IDs suffice?
Answer/Article

Passports are issued by the country of residence/citizenship. Visas are issued by the country a citizen intends to visit.  Not all foreign countries require Visas for American citizens; but the Unites States is requiring passports for citizens returning to the United States from foreign countries.  Government issued ID’s and certified birth certificates are no longer valid.  There is an applicable “Passport Card” which the US Government issues for citizens traveling to and from Mexico and Canada by land, but this is not viable for air or sea transportation.

Your AAA Travel Agent can assist you with your international questions (1-800-391-4222)  or contact that Consulate of the country you intend to visit for Visa specifics.

Many nations will accept your US Driver’s License if you are driving outside the country, but rental car agencies will usually require and International Driving Permit, available exclusively at AAA, to rent a vehicle.
