SCSI drives (pronounced “scuzzi”) require a SCSI HDD controller that can be either built in to the motherboard or a plug in interface card. If you receive the message “No Hard disk drive found please install the driver for the hard disk drive” during Windows setup, it is because Windows setup either did not find a SCSI HDD controller installed or did not recognized it. In the first case ensure that a compatible SCSI HDD controller is installed and connected to the SCSI drive. In the second case you will need to acquire the driver for the SCSI HDD controller from the manufacturer. Once you have accomplished that then all you have to do is install the SCSI controller driver when the “No Hard disk drive found please install the driver for the hard disk drive” message appears. Afterwards the SCSI drive will be found to continue the installation.
If you are installing a secondary drive either internally or externally then you need to initialize, partition, and format the drive. You will find the following steps in the Windows Help file.
New disks appear as Not Initialized. Before you can use a disk, you must first initialize it. If you start Disk Management after adding a disk, the Initialize Disk Wizard appears so you can initialize the disk. If the Initialize Disk Wizard did not appear then do the following:
-
Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and open Computer Management.
-
In the console tree under Storage click on Disk Management.
-
Right-click the disk you want to initialize and then click Initialize Disk.
-
In the Initialize Disk dialog box, select the disk(s) to initialize. The disk is initialized as a basic disk.
-
Right-click an unallocated region of a basic disk and then click New Partition, or right-click free space in an extended partition and then click New Logical Drive.
-
In the New Partition Wizard, click Next, click Primary partition, Extended partition, or Logical drive, and then follow the instructions on your screen.
-
Finally formatting will typically start after the partitioning has completed. However, to manually start the process Right-click the partition, logical drive, or basic volume you want to format (or reformat), and then click Format.
-
Select the options you want and then click OK.
Special note: If the drive does not show up under Disk Management check Device Manager and if the drive is there with a Red X on it then right click on it and select enable driver. If the drive is not listed in Device Manager then check your hardware and power connections.
