A cell phone texting scam is a text message that appears to come from the credit union but is actually a fraud. The fraudsters state that your account has been restricted and direct you to call a phone number that you don't recognize in order to restore your bank account. Once you dial the phone number, you are prompted to enter your personal and financial account information.
For example:
You receive a text message from a number you do not recognize: "Dear Credit Union Customer, we regret to inform you that we had to lock your bank account access." You are directed to call a different number to restore your bank account. You may be prompted to enter your account number. It may also request additional information such as address, birth date or even your social security number.
Remember that Global Credit Union will never initiate a call, text, or email for this information as we already have it on file. If you receive such a text please contact the credit union immediately.
