Global members not affected by "Heartbleed" Security Vulnerability
You may have heard in the news or read articles concerning the Open SSL “Heartbleed” bug that is currently affecting websites all over the internet.
What is this all about?
Heartbleed creates an opening in SSL/TLS, an encryption technology marked by the small, closed padlock and "https:" on Web browsers to signify that traffic is secure. The flaw makes it possible to snoop on Internet traffic even if the padlock had been closed. Interlopers could also grab the keys for deciphering encrypted data without the website owners knowing the theft had occurred, according to security researchers.
Is Global Credit Union impacted?
Global’s eBranch does not use Open SSL for internet security so this does not affect Global. Global considers your online security imperative and has a stringent program to maintain your online safety.
What Should You Do?
1. Be aware of this issue and that it still affects many websites on the Internet.
2. Be vigilant about fraudulent Email claiming that some action is necessary on your part. Always verify the source of any such messages by contacting the company. Don't click on any link in suspicious email.
