Question/Topic
What is Courtesy Overdraft?
Answer/Article

Courtesy Overdraft is a service that gives you the peace of mind that your checking account is covered against overdrafts. You are automatically covered up to your limit when items are presented for payment from your checking account, even if it causes your account to become overdrawn. Courtesy Overdraft can prevent those embarrassing moments when a mistake or emergency happens.

While it is not an invitation to overdraw your account, it is an added layer of safety should you accidentally present items for more than you have in your account. With Courtesy Overdraft, the Credit Union may pay an item rather than returning it. Courtesy Overdraft will cover checks, automatic debits, bill payer debits, ATM withdrawals, Visa Check Card transactions, and cashing a check in an iQ Credit Union branch. We recommend you check your ATM balance prior to making a withdrawal to avoid a fee. There is a fee for each item covered under Courtesy Overdraft.

You make an honest mistake in your checkbook and it leaves you a "little short" to cover all your outstanding checks.  Courtesy Overdraft is here to help.  This saves you the potential of additional charges from the merchant.  If the payment was for a loan, Courtesy Overdraft protects your credit rating by ensuring your payment is not reported as past due.  In addition, it means your bill payment, VISA Debit, Point-of-Sale, or ATM transaction may go through, rather than being declined because there is not enough money in your checking account at that time.  There are no applications of signatures required for this service.
