Question/Topic
What is the process for receiving rental assistance?
Answer/Article
The process for receiving rental assistance is as follows:

1. Tenant applies for rental assistance with Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC) and is placed on the waiting list.
2. Once the tenant's name reaches the top of the waiting list, eligibility is determined.
3. If eligible, the tenant is issued a Housing Choice Voucher.
4. Tenant searches for housing.
5. The owner conducts his or her own tenant screening.
6. The owner and tenant sign all lease documents.
7. The unit is inspected and must pass Housing Quality Standards.
8. When the unit passes inspection, KHC will begin paying rental assistance while prorating the first month's rent.
9. The owner and tenant assume the responsibilities of any tenant/landlord arrangement.
10. KHC inspects the unit at least annually, and tenants must be recertified annually.
