PC Game Sound Problems/FAQs

No sound, stuttering sound or other sound related issues.

First and most importantly, ensure your PC meets the minimum system requirements to run the game.  To do this use this PC Game System Requirements Q&A Search link which will display a list of all supported PC titles Minimum System Requirements.  For more general information on a title you can select your game from Category 2 (then click "GO") to display all knowledge items for that game.

It is possible that your sound volume is muted or turned down:
  1. Goto Start, Settings, then Control Panel.
  2. Click on Sound and Audio Devices.
  3. In the Device Volume box, click Advanced
  4. Ensure both Wave volume and the Master Volume are not muted or turned down.

Ensure you are using the latest drivers for the sound hardware on your system, please check here for a guide to drivers and how to update them:

Try running the game after a clean boot of your system as outlined here:

Try lowering the hardware acceleration level for your sound card/chip:
  1. Goto Start, then Run.
  2. In the Open box, type in 'dxdiag'.
  3. Click Ok.
  4. Goto the Sound tab.
  5. Set the hardware acceleration level to standard or lower.

All of the above are frequently encountered fixes for common PC game sound issues.  If you need further assistance please open a support incident by visiting the Ask a Question page and entering a new support ticket, or you may reopen a previous ticket by visiting My Past Questions.  At the bottom of the question section you will see three "Browse" buttons.  Please use these buttons to locate and attach your error report, dxdiag, or screen shots, etc. to your incident.
