First and most importantly, ensure your PC meets the minimum system requirements to run the game. To do this use this PC Game System Requirements Q&A Search link which will display a list of all supported PC titles Minimum System Requirements. For more general information on a title you can select your game from Category 2 (then click "GO") to display all knowledge items for that game.
Crashing/Corrupted Graphics or Poor Performance
- Ensure you are using the latest drivers for graphics and sound cards. Please check here for a guide to drivers and how to update them.
- Try running the game after a clean boot of your system as outlined here:
- Ensure your computer meets the minimum system requirements to run the game.
- Lower the hardware acceleration level for your sound card:
- Go to Start, then Run.
- In the Open box, type in 'dxdiag'.
- Click Ok.
- Goto the Sound tab.
- Set the hardware acceleration level to standard or lower.
- Lower the hardware acceleration level for your graphics card:
- Right click anywhere on your desktop, then go to Properties, then Settings, then Advanced.
- Click on Troubleshooting or Performance.
- Set the hardware acceleration level to one notch lower.
- Lower your in-game resolution and Windows® desktop resolution to 640x480.
- Lower all in game graphics settings to their minimum settings.
- Problems with Multiple or Dual Core processors:
Multiple or Dual Core processors, even when paired with a powerful video card and ample RAM, may experience gameplay performace problems when playing PC titles like The Suffering: Ties That Bind or Area 51. Microsoft and AMD are still working on ways to make better use of these types of processors so that their full power may be used.
