What are drivers and how do I update them?

The first step, and most important, is to make sure you meet the minimum system requirements for the game you are installing/playing.  To do this use this PC Game System Requirements Q&A Search link which will display a list of all supported PC titles Minimum System Requirements.  For more general information on a title you can select your game from Category 2 (then click "GO") to display all knowledge items for that game.

What are drivers?

“Drivers” is a term used to describe the software that controls each of the separate parts of your PC. The most common drivers control your video card, your sound card, and your motherboard.  Today's games require that your drivers are compatible with the version of DirectX that the game uses. It is therefore necessary to update the drivers on your PC every 2 to 4 months in order to keep your PC up to date.

Where do I get the drivers from?

This list of video and sound card manufacturers is provided for your reference and convenience only.  We can only point you in the right direction to update your video card drivers; it is your own responsibility to have them installed in the correct manner.  If you are having any trouble installing new drivers, please consult your PC manufacture for advice, as it is their responsibility to help you do this.
