Question/Topic
What are the differences between a value plan and a classic plan?
Answer/Article

Value plans for employees and non-Medicare retirees:

  • May require annual deductibles; classic plans do not.
  • Require higher copays for brand name prescription drugs purchased by mail order.
  • Require higher copays for office visits.
  • Require higher annual out-of-pocket maximums.
  • Kaiser’s value plan for active employees requires a coinsurance payment (a percentage of the total cost) instead of a copay for some services.

Medicare value plans have some additional differences:

  • Kaiser Permanente Value (Medicare Advantage) requires a copay for preventive services.
  • All Medicare value plans have higher copays for most retail prescriptions. Group Health Classic (Medicare Advantage) and Group Health Value (Medicare Advantage) plans require the same copay for mail order brand name drugs only.
