Question/Topic
How does UMP cover transplants?
Answer/Article

You must receive preauthorization from the plan for all transplants. This benefit covers services related to transplants, including professional and facility fees for inpatient accommodation, diagnostic tests and exams, surgery, and follow-up care.

The plan covers the costs to remove the donor’s organ and treat complications directly resulting from the donor’s surgery if the:

  • Donor is not eligible for coverage under any other health care plan or government-funded program.
  • Organ recipient is enrolled in UMP.
  • Organ transplant meets the above coverage criteria.
