Question/Topic
How does UMP cover spinal and extremity manipulations (chiropractic services)?
Answer/Article

Manipulations (adjustments) of the spine and extremities (arms and legs) may be performed by a chiropractor, an osteopathic physician, or another approved provider type. See the online provider directory to find a network provider.

UMP covers up to 10 visits per calendar year. When you have reached your 10-visit limit, UMP will deny claims for any further manipulations (adjustments) of the spine and extremities (arms and legs). Visits that count toward your annual medical deductible also count toward your 10-visit limit (see "Limited Benefit").

UMP also covers the following services related to spinal and extremity manipulation under this benefit. A visit that includes these services also counts as one visit toward your 10-visit limit, regardless of whether a manipulation is also performed at that time.

  • Diagnostic tests
  • Office visits
  • X-rays

UMP does not pay separately for complementary or preparatory services performed during a visit. They are considered included in the office visit charges. These include (but are not limited to):

  • Application of heat or cold, before or after manipulation.
  • Exercises performed before or after a manipulation.
