Question/Topic
How does UMP cover insulin and diabetes supplies?
Answer/Article

TIP: You should purchase glucometers and test strips from a UMP network pharmacy to save money and avoid submitting your own claims.

The diabetic supplies listed in the table below are covered under the UMP prescription drug benefit. To be covered by UMP, you must get a written prescription from an approved provider type for the medications and supplies listed below.

The items in the table below are covered according to the designated tier as listed in the UMP Preferred Drug List (UMP PDL). To find out the tier of glucometers and test strips, see the online PDL or call Washington State Rx Services at 1-888-361-1611.

ALERT! Some supplies, such as insulin pumps and related pump supplies, are not available through Wellpartner, the network mail-order pharmacy.

UMP covers insulin pumps and related pump supplies as durable medical equipment (DME). To purchase these use a UMP network DME supplier. Check the UMP online directory under "durable medical equipment supplier" or call UMP Customer Service at 1-800-762-6004 to find a network DME supplier.
