Question/Topic
How does UMP cover services provided at tribal (Native American) health clinics?
Answer/Article

Covered services provided at a tribal health clinic are paid at the UMP network rate, even if the clinic is not contracted with UMP and does not appear in the provider directory. NOTE: If the charges billed by a noncontracted tribal health clinic exceed the UMP allowed amount, the enrollee pays the difference between the billed charges and the allowed amount in addition to their coinsurance.

Prescriptions may be filled at tribal health clinics. Clinics that bill UMP electronically for prescriptions are paid at the network rate for prescriptions. If a clinic is not able to bill UMP electronically, the enrollee should submit a paper claim for reimbursement. However, please note that if the clinic charges more than UMP's allowed amount, the enrollee pays the difference between the billed charges and allowed amount in addition to their coinsurance.
