Avoiding Scams
I am very concern about an e-mail I received from "Sun Trust Bank" asking for my personal information to allegedly safeguard my information from identity theft and when i call to inquiry about this e-mail, I was told by your 800 # operator that Janet Cueto, Operator Manager, instructed me to ignore the e-mail. I am not happy about the fact that nothing was done and if in fact, i am getting e- mails from fraudulent agencies, i am concern about who has my personal information. I also checked the website and on October 22, 2004 Nevada Police warned the public about fraudulent e-mails being received with "Sun Trust Bank Logos" - if that is the case, i believe something should be done about it by your bank to warn all of their customers. I thank you in advance for your immediate attention to this matter and i would appreciate getting a reply from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you for your question. The type of fraud that you mentioned is becoming very prevalent on the internet. It is known as Phishing - companies will disguise themselves as legitimate companies to get account numbers, pin numbers or personal information from unsuspecting individuals. This is a huge problem and we will be addressing this topic in our next newsletter. For your information, we will never call you or e-mail you to verify account numbers or pin numbers.
