Fire extinguishers are an important tool in protecting your home from fire damage. Keys to effectively using fire extinguishers include:

  • Location: At minimum, you should have a fire extinguisher located in your kitchen. If you home is large, you may want add additional fire extinguishers to other areas fires could occur such  fireplaces, near outdoor cooking areas, and near space heaters or furnaces.
  • Servicing: Fire extinguishers should be regularly serviced to ensure they will work if needed.

While you're at it, be sure to keep smoke detectors in working order, with charged batteries. An easy reminder for checking batteries is to do it when you change your clocks, or on a birthday or anniversary of moving into your current residence.
