The "Bite of Reality" is a financial reality simulation fair intended for teenagers. This program, sponsored by the Richard Myles Johnson Foundation, assigns an identity to attendees—occupation, salary, spouse, children, etc.—and they must then use the details of their identity to make financial ends meet while "purchasing" basic life needs like housing, transportation, groceries and dining, etc from 8 table-top vendors. This allows teens to experience how easy it is to overspend, even with a decent adult-sized income, in a safe environment.

Redwood Credit Union is pleased to be running the interactive Bite of Reality sessions for the following organizations:

  • 5/17/19 - Marin Oaks High School
  • 5/29/19 - American Canyon High School
  • 6/7/19 - San Francisco YouthWorks
  • 6/21/19 – Chops Teen Club
  • 7/2/19 - Sonoma State University Summer Bridge
  • 7/12/19 - Sonoma County Youth Ecology Corps

As you can see, we partner with individual schools and teen-based nonprofits so, if you are interested in your organization running a session of the "Bite", please visit the Financial Wellness Request area on RCU's Community Requests webpage.
