Redwood Credit Union’s Lake County Fire Victim’s Relief Fund received over $265,000 from nearly 700 generous donors—including $100,000 from Jackson Family Wines—after the Clayton fires began in August, 2016.

The fund was created by RCU Community Fund, Inc. (RCUCF) in partnership with Redwood Credit Union, the Press Democrat and Senator Mike McGuire, to support fire relief efforts and victims of the Clayton Fire.  Many local community advisors were engaged for input, including; Lake County Supervisors, OES, Cal Fire, Lake County Sheriff, school superintendents and staff and community leaders.

The contributions of donors supported the needs of Lower Lake County in the following ways:

  • Students, teachers and school employees who lost homes received gift cards to replace clothes and school supplies. Total distribution: $19,600

  • $20,000 was provided for Lower Lake business recovery grants, available through the Lake Area Rotary Club Association (LARCA).

  • $135,000 was disbursed to 250 fire victims to support their needs after the fire.

  • To support community rebuilding, a holiday celebration was held at Brick Hall in Lower Lake in early December. Toys, gifts, pajamas, books and gift cards were provided to children by Santa. Art Ibleto, the Pasta King, provided a free pasta lunch for more than 200 fire survivors and members of the community.
  • $35,000 was provided to support the Lake County Fire Protection District for 20 sets of new wildfire gear.
  • More than $40,000 has been allocated to help rebuild homes for the victims of the Clayton Fire through Hope City.

Thank you for your generous support of our Lake County neighbors in need!
