How do scammers know I have an account with Redwood Credit Union?

Scammers who try to trick you by impersonating RCU may not actually know you have an account with Redwood Credit Union. Often, scammers will target a city or region and do research on what companies are popular in that area. Using this information, they might make an educated guess that many people in our area have an account with Redwood Credit Union. They will contact people who live in the area and claim to be from RCU, but give as little information as possible hoping that their victims will unwittingly share sensitive account information. Often, they will make it sound like there is a problem with your account or that something needs your urgent attention to try to get you to act before you can think about it.
