The requirements to recover a car from repossession will vary depending on the circumstances at the time of repossession and the type of loan. Please refer to the documents provided to you (Notice of Our Plan to Sell Property) for detailed information, and if you have additional questions, please call RCU’s Financial Assistance Department directly at 1 (800) 479-7928.

At minimum, you will be required to provide the following: Proof of insurance, current registration, pay the loan current (with certified funds: Cashier’s check or cash paid at a branch or service center), release from your local police department (a fee may apply) and a money order or cashier’s check for the repossession and storage fees made payable to the repossession agency when the vehicle is reinstated. Only the person on the loan can pick up the vehicle, unless arrangements are made in advance with a representative of RCU’s Financial Assistance Department.  Depending on the circumstances, we may require that you pay the loan in full in order to obtain the vehicle.

The repossession fee will be at least $350.00, vehicle storage is approx. $50.00/day.  Storage charges for personal items will vary.  To obtain the required release from the local police jurisdiction, the registered owner will need to visit the local police office and present a valid driver's license and pay a small fee.

Note that most repossession agencies are open Monday-Friday only.
