SST Insurance Brokers Acquisition FAQs

Background:

On January 2, 2015, RCU Services Group (RCU’s wholly-owned subsidiary) purchased SST Insurance Brokers with the intent to enhance RCU Insurance Services and improve service to Members by bringing our insurance services in-house.

Q: Who is SST Insurance Brokers, Inc.?

A: SST Insurance Brokers, Inc. is a spinoff of a former company known as Sylvester, Schwarz and Tugaw, which was formed in 1979. In 1997 Douglas Mahon purchased the agency and the name was changed to SST Insurance Brokers, Inc. SST provides all types of insurance coverages, with an emphasis on commercial and private clients including homeowners, auto and umbrella coverage. SST also has a special expertise in medical imaging, habitational and non-profit insurance.

SST uses the following carriers: Travelers Property & Casualty Company, The Hartford, Capital Insurance Group, Nationwide Insurance, Safeco Insurance Companies, Kemper, American Modern, Foremost Insurance Group and Zurich North America, among others.

Q: Do you have to become a Member of RCU to have insurance through RCU Insurance Services or through SST?

A: No, Membership with RCU is not a requirement to use the services of RCU Insurance Services or SST.

Q: Does being an SST policy holder automatically qualify you to become a member of RCU?

A: No, you must meet certain membership requirements to become a member of RCU.  Please see membership requirements.

Q: Do SST Insurance Services policy holders need to transfer their policies to RCU Insurance Services?

A: No, there will be no impact to current SST policy holders.

Q: Do RCU Insurance Services policy holders need to transfer their policies to SST?

A: No, there will be no impact to current RCU Insurance Services policy holders.

Q: Can Members meet with an Agent in person to get a new policy?

A: Yes, agents can meet with a Member to discuss purchasing a new policy.

Q: Can RCU Insurance Services policy holders contact SST to service their existing policies?

A: Until RCU completes the transition to move the policies over to SST, the SST office is not able to view policy information for RCU Insurance Services policy holders. For now, RCU Insurance Services clients will continue to work with RCU Insurance Services.

Q: Can SST policy holders contact RCU Insurance Services to service their existing policies?

A: RCU Insurance Services is not able to view policy information for SST policy holders.  For now, SST clients will continue to work with their SST agents.
