Credit Limit Increase

Whether you applied for a credit limit increase, received an automatic increase, or are curious about credit limit increases, you’re in the right place.

If you received an automatic credit limit increase, or you received confirmation that your increase application has been approved, your new limit is ready for you to use immediately.

If you have additional questions about your limit increase, see our frequently asked questions below.

Why did I receive an automatic credit limit increase?

Incrementally increasing credit limits on credit cards gives our Members more flexibility and stronger purchasing power. RCU periodically reviews and increases credit limits for Members based on several factors, without a hard credit inquiry.

What if my interest rate increased?

If your Visa® interest rate increases, your current balance is protected. Your existing balance will continue to be charged at your old rate.

For example, if your rate increases from 13% to 16%, your current balance remains at 13%. Only new purchases will be charged the new 16% rate.

Will an automatic credit limit increase impact my credit score?

For automatic credit limit increases, RCU uses account-based credit data to determine eligibility, which won’t directly impact your credit score. If a Member maintains their current spending habits, they may see a positive credit score impact because they will be using less of their available credit. If not managed properly, a higher credit limit could lead to higher spending or increased debt. That’s why RCU gives our Members the opportunity to reduce the amount of a credit limit increase and, if desired, opt out of future credit limit increases.

Members who submit a credit application for a credit limit increase will still incur a hard credit pull as disclosed prior to submitting the application.

What if I don’t want the automatic credit limit increase from RCU?

If you do not wish to take advantage of this increase, you can opt out of this or future increases in digital banking. Log in to your account and find the credit card you were notified has received a credit limit increase. Select the card, go to Card Services, then select Manage Credit Limit to make changes. If you need additional assistance, please contact us by sending a secure message through digital banking, visiting us at any local RCU branch, or calling us at 1 (800) 479-7928.
