Terms of Use

For quick cost cutting on your car expenses, try this:

  • Change your oil less frequently.  A survey by AAA found that 95 percent of drivers had oil changes more often than necessary.  Heavily used cars like taxis need an oil change every 3,000 miles, but if you have normal usage, you can expect to need an oil change every 7,500 miles.

  • Comparison shop for auto repairs.  It's a good idea to get 3 estimates and let each company know that you are shopping around for the best deal on auto repair work.

  • Fix windshield chips before they become serious.  The cost to replace a windshield runs between $500 - $1,200.  The cost to repair a chipped windshield is $100 or less.

  • Just say no to extended warranties.  Car dealerships may try to sell you an extended warranty on your vehicle, but they're in it for the money.

  • Give your insurance an annual check-up.  Consider dropping collision coverage when the annual premium approaches the value of your car.
