It's important to check your savings bonds periodically to determine if they're still earning interest, and if they're not, they should be redeemed.
Savings bonds earn interest for different lengths of time depending on the series and when the bond was issued.
Perhaps you have savings bonds stashed in a safe deposit box or drawer somewhere. Check the maturity dates, and see the table below for those no longer earning interest:

If you own one of these savings bonds listed, you will want to cash them in or exchange them.
To do so, go to TreasuryDirect.gov or some financial institutions. The cash amount can be credited to your checking or savings account within two business days of the redemption date.
