AAA/CAA inspectors have evaluated and rated each of the lodging and restaurant establishments in the TourBook guide series to ensure quality travel information for our members.
All properties must meet AAA minimum requirements (for lodgings) concerning cleanliness, comfort and security or AAA minimum requirements (for restaurants) pertaining to cleanliness, food preparation and service. Eligible applicants receive an unannounced evaluation by inspectors that include two distinct components.
AAA approval:
The inspector first must determine whether the property meets criteria required to be AAA Approved. Every establishment that meets these strict guidelines offers AAA Members the assurance that, regardless of the Diamond rating, it provides acceptable quality, cleanliness, service and value.
Diamond rating:
Once an establishment becomes AAA Approved, it is assigned a rating of one to five Diamonds, indicating the extensiveness of its facilities, amenities and services from basic to moderate to luxury. These Diamond ratings guide members in selecting establishments appropriately matched to their needs and expectations.

  • One Diamond lodgings appeal to the budget-minded traveler and provide essential, no-frills accommodations and basic comfort and hospitality.
  • Two Diamond lodgings appeal to travelers seeking affordable, yet more than basic accommodations. Facilities, d├ęcor and amenities are modestly enhanced.
  • Three Diamond lodgings offer a distinguished style. Properties are multi-faceted with upgrades in physical attributes, amenities and guest comforts.
  • Four Diamond lodgings are refined and stylish. Physical attributes are upscale. Fundamental hallmarks at this level include an extensive array of amenities combined with a high degree of hospitality, service and attention to detail.
  • Five Diamond lodgings provide the ultimate in luxury and sophistication. Physical attributes are extraordinary in every manner. Service is meticulous, exceeding guest expectations and maintaining impeccable standards of excellence. Extensive personalized services and amenities provide first-class comfort.
  • Lodgings marked with FYI in place of diamonds are included as information-only service for members. The icon indicates that a property has not been rated for one or more of the following reasons: too new to rate, under construction, under major renovation, not evaluated or may not meet all AAA requirements.

  • Two Diamond facilities offer a familiar family-oriented experience. Menu selection includes home-style foods and family favorites, often cooked to order, modestly enhanced and reasonably priced.
