What to Do if a Settlement is Too Low
Don't feel pressured to sign the first check. If you believe your car is worth more or your injuries are more severe, use this escalation path.
Step 1: Evidence Gathering
Collect three independent repair estimates or "sold" listings of similar vehicles in your area. Submit these to the Claims Manager as "New Information" for your file.
Step 2: The Appraisal Clause
Check your policy for the Appraisal Provision. This allows you to hire your own expert to negotiate directly with the company's expert, bypassing the adjuster entirely.
Step 3: External Mediation
Contact these resources if the internal appeal fails:
Post-Settlement Tip: Once resolved, review your coverage. If this process was difficult, it may be time to switch to a carrier with a higher Customer Satisfaction Rating or a lower Complaint Ratio.
