  • Go on-line.  Check out rental rates on sites such as Expedia, Hotwire, Priceline, Travelocity, Kayak for the lowest rates by city or airport locationBe sure to compare all-in costs including taxes and feesYou can also go directly to rental car web sites to look for deals. Online specials may be lower than booking your car rental over the phone.
     
  • Use your membership discountsDo you belong to AAA, AARP, or CostcoThese and frequent flyer memberships or other entertainment coupons may be a great way to save some money on car rentals.
     
  • Be flexibleIf you can travel over a weekend, rental rates are often lower than during the weekIf you're traveling for less than a week, check out the weekly rental rate to make sure it's not a better deal than paying the daily rate
